Meat pigeon breeding is a new type of special breeding. It started in the 1980s. After more than 30 years of development and rapid growth in output value, there is a tradition of family-by-household development in the direction of mechanization after the organic combination of scale and scientific research. Breeding equipment has really become a "magic weapon" for meat pigeon breeding. So among these equipment, which ones are necessary for pigeon farms, and which ones are more practical? Let's take a look today.
Perch
Pigeons like to be high. Breeders, youngsters and young pigeons raised in groups often need to be equipped with perches. The perches are usually placed at the root or on the wall of the pigeon house and around the sports field. They can be placed flat or inclined. In addition to the more particular perches for carrier pigeons, the perches for meat pigeons are generally more flexible. Perches are usually made of bamboo and wood, with a length of 2-4 meters and a width of 0.4-0.6 meters or slightly wider. Generally, bamboo slices with a width of 1.5-2.0 cm are nailed every 10-30 cm on two wooden sticks or square materials. The number of perches is advisable to have one perch for each pigeon.
The nest box is for the pigeons to lay eggs and hatch, and the nest box can use square or round plastic pots, tile bowls, wooden pots and gypsum pots. The plastic nest box is light and durable, has good air permeability, lower broken eggs rates, high chick rate and squab survival rate, and is easy to clean and disinfect. Clay bowls have poor ventilation, and in rainy seasons and poorly ventilated lofts, it is not ideal to use clay bowls as nest box.
In addition, the number of nest box placed in the group pigeon house must be sufficient, because the juvenile young pigeons only need to occupy one nest, and a pair of producing pigeons sometimes occupy 2-3 nest box, so the number of nest box is generally more than the number of pigeons is to meet their nest-occupancy needs and reduce the battle caused by nest-occupancy. Bedding must be placed in the nest. The bedding is required to have good thermal insulation, ventilation and elasticity, and can maintain the egg temperature of the hatching eggs. , The eggs are not easy to roll, not easy to break and damage, so that the pigeons feel comfortable when they nest, which is conducive to the improvement of the hatching rate. Commonly used bedding materials include straw, hay, chaff, fine sand, and flax sheets.
1. Straw and other nest pads have good thermal insulation and average elasticity. It is best to weave them into circular nests. Unwoven forage is easy to wrap around pigeon claws, and even pull eggs out of the nest.
2. The thermal insulation and elasticity of the chaff is good, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to crawl out of the nest, and it needs to be replenished continuously, which increases the cleaning workload.
3. Use several layers of hemp sheets as padding, or cover a layer of hemp cloth on top of the forage, which has good thermal insulation and elasticity. After several days of use, it can be washed and dried before use.
4. Clean and dry fine sand is a better litter material. It has good thermal insulation and cushioning properties, and can stain the feces in the nest into feces, which is easy to remove. Just replace it once. No matter what kind of litter, it must be dry, clean and about 1 cm thick.
1.Cup-type drinking fountains, including ceramic cups, plastic drinker bottles, glass bottles with missing heads, etc., With a volume of more than 400 ml and an open mouth. Per pair of breeders or two pairs of breeders.
2. Trough type drinking fountain, the sink can be made of zinc skin or plastic, and the length is the same as that of the pigeon cage, which is suitable for large and medium-sized pigeon farms. It is easy to clean by adding water from the tap, but it is easy to be polluted by feces and needs to be wiped frequently.
2.Water pipe nipple drinker can be made of plastic round pipes and iron pipes with a diameter of 12-16 cm. According to the width of the pigeon cage, an oval opening of 4-6 cm is opened on the round pipe. The tap water supply is provided to ensure the cleanliness of drinking water. When cleaning the water pipe, use a piece of sponge tied with a nylon rope, penetrate from one end of the water pipe, pull it out from the other end, and repeat several times to clean the dirt in the pipe.
Foot rings, also known as foot rings or pigeon rings, are made of plastic or aluminum. In order to identify the pigeons and to record the pedigrees of the pigeons, the breeding pigeons and the breeding pigeons should be put on numbered anklets. Usually 7-8 years old young birds put on ankle rings.
