In modern chicken farming, in order to meet the drinking water needs of chickens, ensure water quality, reduce the transmission of diseases from drinking water sources, save water, save labor, and improve economic benefits, the vast majority of chicken farms are using nipple drinking fountains. Many chicken farm managers have many problems in the purchase, installation, use and maintenance of nipple water dispensers. Therefore, the following problems should be paid attention to in the practice of chicken production.
1. Purchase of nipple water dispenser
(1) Choosing manufacturers with good product quality, high reputation of after-sales service and relevant technical guidance ability is the basis for the purchase of nipple drinking water dispensers. Among them, the key is to pay attention to the quality of the sealing ring, which is best made of polytetrafluoroethylene. The sealing ring has good elasticity, good quality, not easy to aging and long service life.
(2) Choose a reasonable type of drinking nipple according to the different production stages of chickens. Chicks peck nipples with little force, so they should choose nipples with low valve opening force, generally about 10 G. Adult chickens should be larger, about 40 G. In this way, the chicks will not be able to peck out water due to the high valve opening force of the nipples, and the adult chickens will not leak water due to the low valve opening force of the nipples.
2. Installation of nipple water dispenser
(1) The installation of nipple water dispenser should be standardized and reasonable to ensure that the water pipe is straight and the water supply in each section of the water pipe is uniform. A water tank shall be installed in each layer of chicken coop, and a water level regulator shall be installed in the water tank to ensure the appropriate water pressure and flow of each section of the water pipe. A water filter should be installed at the beginning of the water source to avoid foreign matters blocking the drinking nipple. The nipple water dispenser should be installed vertically downward, otherwise, water leakage may occur.
(2) The installation of chick cage nipple water dispenser should be based on whether the chick can reach the nipple. It is best to leave adjustable space, which can adjust the height of the nipple at any time according to the growth of the chicken. This can not only meet the chicken's habit of pecking the nipple and drinking water, but also prevent the chick from reaching the nipple, or the nipple is too low, and the chick's body often touches the nipple and leaks water.
(3) For the installation of adult chicken cage nipple water dispenser, the drinking nipple should be installed in the front and upper part of the chicken cage, preferably between the two cages, so as to reduce the probability of water leakage when the chicken touches the nipple during activities. Each cage chicken has 2 nipples to drink.
3. Use of nipple water dispenser
When using the nipple water dispenser, two checks must be done frequently:
(1) Often check whether the drinking nipple is blocked or leaking by foreign bodies. Find and solve problems in time.
(2) Always check whether there is no water in the water pipe. Especially for the water pipes with long drinking water lines, it is difficult to control the straightness of the water pipes, and the water pipes at high positions are prone to the air intake without water, which affects the normal production performance of chickens. It is necessary to check and repair frequently, exhaust gas and properly adjust the water level and pressure. If drinking water is used for dosing or immunization, the water level of the water tank can be appropriately adjusted to increase the water pressure, so that the water containing drugs or vaccines can flow to the end of the water pipe as soon as possible. You can also open end of the water pipe to let the water remain in the pipe flow out until the water containing drugs or vaccines flows to the end of the water pipe and then seal it. In this way, the chickens at the beginning and the end of the water pipe can be introduced into water containing drugs or vaccines at the same time in a short time, which will not lead to a situation that often occurs in clinical practice, that is, the chickens at the beginning of the water pipe drink enough water containing drugs or vaccines, while the chickens at the end of the water pipe drink the water originally left in the water pipe, or only drink a small amount of water containing drugs or vaccines, or even cannot drink, resulting in uneven immune or dosing effects.
During the long-term use of drinking nipples and water pipes, there will be a kind of viscous material inside, which is a biofilm formed by bacteria adhering to the inner wall of the drinking water system. The formation of this substance will pollute the water quality and block the drinking fountain. In production, high-pressure water is often used to flush the pipe to prevent the formation of biofilm, and organic acids such as hydrogen peroxide can also be used to remove the biofilm.

4. Maintenance of nipple water dispenser
(1) The use of nipple water dispenser requires high water quality. It is strictly forbidden to flow unfiltered water into the drinking water pipe to prevent impurities in the water from blocking the drinking nipple.
(2) When the nipple drinking the water pipe is idle, the water left in the water purification pipe should be drained to prevent the drinking water system from being polluted due to the deterioration of water quality. Several drinking nipples can be opened at the lower water pipe section to let them flow out of the water pipe freely.
(3) After drinking water immunization or drinking water dosing, flush the water pipe with purified water to flush out the water containing drugs or vaccines left in the water pipe, so as to avoid deterioration and sedimentation of drugs and pollution of the drinking water system.
(4) The use of nipple water dispenser has high requirements for the surrounding environment. For example, if the ambient temperature is too high or too low, it will affect the quality of drinking nipples or water pipes, resulting in deformation, deterioration, rupture and water leakage.
(5) During production, the bent and deformed water pipes should be corrected in time to ensure that the water pipes are straight, and the damaged and aging drinking nipples should be replaced in time to prevent poor drinking water and affect the normal production performance of chickens.
